Common questions

Where can I download it?

Nowhere yet: the game is in closed beta. When it comes out on the App Store, the button will appear here.

What does it cost?

The game is free: six enemies, three bosses, two friends, the dungeon with every ascension, seven mini-games, duels and the armory — no subscriptions, no ads. Day One DLC is a one-time purchase: six more enemies, two bosses, four avatar races, 20 chests and 10,000 gold. Gold can be bought, but everything it buys can be earned by playing.

Do I need a TV?

No. Without a big screen the phone runs the fight itself: a voice calls the enemy's strike, and vibration tells you when to block and whether you hit. With a screen it's more of a show: the enemy at full height, your sword in first person, and the phone stays the hilt. The screen can be a TV, a Mac or any browser.

How do I put the fight on a big screen?

There are two ways. In any browser: open motionduel.com/s on a computer or a TV and point your phone at the code — in the game it's Start Fight → Enemy on the external display → Screen in a browser. Or by AirPlay: Control Center → Screen Mirroring → an Apple TV, an AirPlay TV or a Mac; a cable works too. The game shows the enemy, the location and your sword on the screen.

Do I need the internet?

Not for the game itself. Fights, runs, mini-games, the armory and even a duel with a friend work offline — the phones find each other directly. The network is needed for Game Center leaderboards, purchases and the screen in a browser.

Won't the phone fly out of my hand?

Before a fight the game asks you to stand up, clear an arm's length of space and put a strap on your wrist. The swings are short — this is fencing, not a hammer throw: a strike is counted in a fraction of a second.

I'm left-handed. Is that a problem?

No. The game asks which hand you play with on first launch and mirrors everything: strikes, combos, the sword on screen. You can switch hands in the profile's settings.

What happens if I lose in the dungeon?

The run starts again from the first wave, and everything you've earned stays: gold, sword parts, your level, the ascensions you've opened. If you simply leave mid-run, it's saved and waits for you.

Do I need an Apple Watch?

No, the whole game lives on the iPhone. But with a watch on your other arm you get a shield: you block with a flick of the wrist, and the workout is recorded with your heart rate.

What does it run on, and in which languages?

iPhone with iOS 18 or later. English and Russian — the language is switched in the profile, without leaving the game.

What does the game know about me?

Almost nothing. The game has no accounts, no ads and no analytics, and asks for neither the microphone, your location nor your contacts. The camera is used only to scan the code of a screen in a browser. Motion is read by the phone's sensors and stays on it — unless you've linked a screen in a browser yourself: then the fight is sent to that screen. The details are in the privacy policy.
